The CRS has ten registered representatives who are based in the North, North East and South of the state. In 2017-2018 representatives fulfilled 17 activities, either on a one-off or as an on-going engagement. From July to September of this year the service has filled six activities with another two being undertaken in October.
Carer representatives may participate in many ways such as staff selection processes; sharing their unique story through presentations to students and community based events and they also assist with consultations by participating on Boards or speaking to small groups. The main theme of these and other activities is that each carer has a unique and valuable story, and insights, to share.
The Service links families, friends or carers of people with mental ill health with Government agencies, community services and other employers. This provides an avenue for the inclusion of actual lived carer experience in how services are structured and provided, so as to directly influence positive systemic change. Feedback from carers is valued by government and community mental health organisations to improve carer inclusiveness in service delivery.
